It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might .

Exercise is bunk. If you are healthy, you don't need it: if you are sick you should not take it.

As long as your body is healthy and under control and death is distant, try to save your soul; when death is immanent what can you do?

iPhone and Android App Offers Cheap International Calls

iPhone app Android app for international calls

I used to use conventional calling card to call to my native country from US. That was something! Sometimes I was wondering why I can’t get connected with my parents. After I dialed access number I needed to enter long destination number after connection with calling card service was established. Most of the time I had to wait for 1-2 minutes to hear even distant long signals from my home country’s phone service company. Sometimes those signals sounded weird and nobody was picking up. Often later my parents confirmed that they were near the phone but didn’t hear any ring – the calling card was pretending that my parents weren’t home while they actually were.
The life continued as well as my struggle with calling card service… Once I’ve heard from my friend about www.011now.com service. I went to their site and I saw they have iPhone and Android phones. They say first call is free if I try their smartphone app. I thought what I have to loose. And I caved in – downloaded iPhone app. There is no problem to understand how it works. The interface is simple and I’ve got my free call (or should I say free calls!). They gave me $1.00 to try their services.  Here how the app looks like:

The touchpad is very handy here:

When I dialed the number in the app’s touchpad and clicked the “call with 011Now” button the app connected me with my parents in the matter of seconds. Thank God I don’t need to enter destination number again and again!
Interestingly enough 011now Android app looks a bit different. You don’t need to use app’s touchpad on Android phones. Here how the main screen looks like:
011Now-Android-app
The app intercept outgoing call if this call begins with “011” or with “+”. It is kind of scary at first because you doubt if the 011Now app catches the call. But it works smoothly and show me the screen every time when I dial the international number from Android’s native dialer.
011Now-Android-app-shows-low-international-rates
Click “Use 011Now service” button and you will be connected with 011Now access number in US and then with overseas.

Most of us have had this experience. You head into the busy downtown of a crowded metropolis and there simply isn’t any parking on the street. There has to be a more efficient way to cram more cars into the same amount of space, and the Hiriko folding electric car looks like it will be able to do that. The Hiriko is already a pretty small car, but the rear wheel portion is actually able to “fold” into the front half of the car, effectively reducing its overall length to a mere 60 inches. The two-seater commuter vehicle also comes with “robot wheels” that allow the car to spin into place, and the windshield can open up like a door in case the sides are boxed in by other Hirikos. In effect, you can fit three of these things where you would normally fit one standard car.
If you’re thinking that the Hiriko looks familiar, that’s because we already saw it as the CityCar Concept four years ago. The good news is that it apparently now ready for public consumption with an estimated price of $17,430. The electric car gets about 75 miles on a single charge. Would you want one?

Miscellaneous
Here are a few things you might not have known about all different parts of your anatomy.
  • The colder the room you sleep in, the better the chances are that you’ll have a bad dream. It isn’t entirely clear to scientists why this is the case, but if you are opposed to having nightmares you might want to keep yourself a little toastier at night.
  • Tears and mucus contain an enzyme (lysozyme) that breaks down the cell wall of many bacteria. This is to your advantage, as the mucus that lines your nose and throat, as well as the tears that wet your eyes are helping to prevent bacteria from infecting those areas and making you sick.
  • Your body gives off enough heat in 30 minutes to bring half a gallon of water to a boil. If you’ve seen the Matrix you are aware of the energy potentially generated by the human body. Our bodies expend a large amount of calories keeping us at a steady 98.6 degrees, enough to boil water or even cook pasta.
  • Your ears secrete more earwax when you are afraid than when you aren’t. The chemicals and hormones released when you are afraid could be having unseen effects on your body in the form of earwax. Studies have suggested that fear causes the ears to produce more of the sticky substance, though the reasons are not yet clear.
  • It is not possible to tickle yourself. Even the most ticklish among us do not have the ability to tickle ourselves. The reason behind this is that your brain predicts the tickle from information it already has, like how your fingers are moving. Because it knows and can feel where the tickle is coming from, your brain doesn’t respond in the same way as it would if someone else was doing the tickling.
  • The width of your armspan stretched out is the length of your whole body. While not exact down to the last millimeter, your armspan is a pretty good estimator of your height.
  • Humans are the only animals to produce emotional tears. In the animal world, humans are the biggest crybabies, being the only animals who cry because they’ve had a bad day, lost a loved one, or just don’t feel good.
  • Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people do. This doesn’t have a genetic basis, but is largely due to the fact that a majority of the machines and tools we use on a daily basis are designed for those who are right handed, making them somewhat dangerous for lefties to use and resulting in thousands of accidents and deaths each year.
  • Women burn fat more slowly than men, by a rate of about 50 calories a day. Most men have a much easier time burning fat than women. Women, because of their reproductive role, generally require a higher basic body fat proportion than men, and as a result their bodies don’t get rid of excess fat at the same rate as men.
  • Koalas and primates are the only animals with unique fingerprints. Humans, apes and koalas are unique in the animal kingdom due to the tiny prints on the fingers of their hands. Studies on primates have suggested that even cloned individuals have unique fingerprints.
  • The indentation in the middle of the area between the nose and the upper lip has a name. It is called the philtrum. Scientists have yet to figure out what purpose this indentation serves, though the ancient Greeks thought it to be one of the most erogenous places on the body

Dental decay (caries) and periodontal (gum) disease are among the most common diseases afflicting mankind, especially in the so-called advanced nations.

The higher the standard of living, the more likely it is for tooth loss to occur.

As has been shown already, both dental caries and periodontal disease are the result of bacterial action, in the plaque, which collects on the teeth and gums.

If it is possible to cleanse the mouth completely of the bacterial plaque and maintain it that way, there would be low incidence of  tooth decay or any other gum problems.

Dental diseases are not considered to be lethal and therefore attitudes on the part of governments and public are of a different nature. However, the cost of dental disease in pain, suffering, treatment and loss of work is enormous. Measures to reduce or eliminate dental problems would result in a vast benefit to the population.

  • Dental Floss
Many dental health educators assert that even the most careful brushing does not remove all the harmful substances from the crevices between the teeth, areas where even the bristles cannot reach to reach such areas the use of dental floss is recommended which is nothing but a special kind of silk of nylon thread this floss is passed into the space between
the teeth with a gentle to and fro sawing motion. The floss is then gently worked up and down the tooth into the gum crevices. The floss is purchased wound in a spooland is either waxed or unwaxed. The waxed floss is easier to handle. Using floss is not easy and children especially have difficulty with it. It takes a dedicated and tireless parent to floss the children’s teeth every day. It is far better to spend the effort on careful brushing.

    Tips on using Floss
This is difficult. Your dentist must help you by seeing that you manipulate the floss correctly and safely. It is usually easier to handle the floss if a length of about twelve inches is tied in a circle. Do not be taken in by  special gadgets, which promise to make flossing easier. None of these does anything except add problems. What must be done is to get the strand of floss between the teeth, then wrap it starting from the gum and ending at the biting surface. Do this sweeping motion tow or three times and then repeat with the adjoining tooth.

Child Health Care Tips

Body Care

  • Instead of soap you can sometimes use a mixture of gram flour (besan) and milk to bathe the baby.
  • To massage the baby you could use

    • A mixture of gram flour (basen) and cream with a pinch of turmeric. Apply the mixture on the baby's body and gently rub it off.
    • Take a small ball of wheat dough. Apply some massage oil on it. Massage the baby with this ball by rubbing it over the baby's body. The strokes should be against the hair growth. This is an excellent remedy for removing body hair from a newborn.

  • A rich moisturizer can be made by melting 2 tbsp unsalted butter, 1 tbsp lanolin, 2 tsp glycerine and 3 tbsp olive or almond oil, over a double boiler. Beat well.
  • Boil a handful of neem leaves and basil leaves and wash your hair regularly with it to get rid of lice.
  • To get rid of Band-aid or ugly gray plaster marks apply some lukewarm coconut oil to the area and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash off with soap water.
  • To remove paint or fast colour from your skin, apply curd on the effected part. After few minutes rub and wash it off.
Dandruff Control
  • A mixture of 2 tbsp of curd and a few drops of honey is an excellent anti-dandruff agent when rubbed on the scalp.
  • Lemon juice mixed with mustard oil is an excellent cure for dandruff.
  • For lustrous and dandruff free hair, apply a paste of cooked channa dal and fenugreek leaves and rinse off.
  • To get rid of dandruff, apply a mixture of 10 gm pepper powder, 1 tsp lime juice and ½ cup milk on the scalp.
  • Leave it one overnight and wash off next morning.
  • Onion juice, when massaged on the scalp acts as a wonderful anti-dandruff agent.
Chewing gum Menace

  • To remove chewing gum from clothes -
    • Place the garment in a plastic bag and freeze it. You can then flick off the hardened gum easily.
    • Soak the garment in white vinegar and then wash off.
    • Rub the area with egg white before washing it off.
  • To remove the chewing gum stuck to the floor ,clean it with a little kerosene.
  • To remove chewing gum stuck to your hair, rub a little honey over the hair and the chewing gum will come off.
Clothes Care

  • To prevent colours from running, soak the garment in salt water for 10 minutes before washing it.
  • Nappy washing
    • Stains disappear if you dry the nappies on the lawn or even on a plant, perhaps the extra oxygen exhaled by the plant helps.
    • Half an hour of sunshine is enough to disinfect the nappies.
    • Ironing takes care of any further fear of germs.
    • If washing in a machine the temperature setting can be raised to effectively disinfect the nappies.
  • Stain Removers
    • To remove ice cream stains clean with a sponge dipped in borax solution.
    • Curry stains on clothes can be removed by applying white toothpaste to it and washing after two hours.
    • Ink stains can be removed with a slice of tomato.
    • Sprinkle talcum powder on ink stains before washing off with soap and water.
    • Ball pen ink marks can be removed easily with nail polish remover.
    • To remove ironing stains from garments apply a little salt over the area and wash.
    • Cuffs and collars, if turned inside out before being put in a washing machine, get cleaned very well.
Household Care

  • Pest Control
    • Burn dried orange peel in a corner of the house. The smoke will drive away the mosquitoes.
    • Turmeric powder is a good repellent for ants. Just sprinkle a line of turmeric powder to cordon off the ants.
    • When boiling water, boil some extra water. Pour this down your sink. This will kill cockroaches and remove their eggs.
    • To eliminate cockroaches, knead some wheat flour with boric acid powder and make small balls. Place them near drains and damp corners of your house.
    • To keep flies at bay, add a little salt and a few drops of kerosene to the water for mopping the floor.
    • Betel nuts kept in the corner of a cupboard will help ward off cockroaches.
    • Sprinkle borax powder under the paper covering book shelves and kitchen shelves to keep off silverfish.
  • Before placing a photograph in a frame, lightly dust it with a little talcum powder to prevent it from sticking to the frame.
  • Stick posters on walls with the help of toothpaste. The toothpaste can be scraped off later and does not damage the wall.
  • Some castor oil mixed into coconut oil prevents the latter from freezing in the winters.
  • Add a few drops of olive oil to the dried shoe polish and keep it overnight the polish will be as good as new the next morning.
  • To clean the soiled edges of books, rub with very fine sand paper.
Craft Tips

  • If the end of the cello tape is lost, keep it in the freezer. After few minutes take it out and you will easily be able to find the end.
  • A handy colour palette can be made from an old ice tray.
  • A little vinegar added to hardened gum makes it spread evenly
  • If the cap of gum bottle has become tight and cannot be removed, immerse it in a little glycerin to open it.
  • To ensure that the chalk doesn't rub off the slate, just spray it with some hair spray.
  • Chalk dipped in milk and used on brown paper gives a fantastic sheen.
  • When using the cutting blade make sure you have kept a wad of old newspapers below the design to give it support.
  • Always remember to close lids of varnish and enamel tins tightly.
  • In the long run small tins of varnish or enamel paints are more economical than bigger packaging.
  • Once a varnish tin is opened a wasteful skin begins to form on top, because of which always store the tins upside down as this makes sure that the skin forms at the bottom of the tin and therefore doesn't cause problem in usage.
  • The golden rule for brushes for varnishing is always to buy the best quality brushes. You don't want to waste time and effort of having to stop constantly to fish out stray bristles.
  • Keep a separate set of brushes for use in varnish as once used in varnish they are not good for use in any other medium.
  • Never use damp brushes for varnishing. Always dry the brushes properly after having washed them.
  • Sharpen scissors against the neck of a glass bottle.
  • Sharpen a sewing machine needle by running the machine on sandpaper.
  • Before painting terracotta pieces, soak them overnight. Once dry they will absorb paint better and the paint will not chip off easily.

Physical Health

Physical Health

Your body’s the only place you have to live, so take care of it

Just as important as keeping a healthy mind during your time in college is maintaining your physical wellness. The typical college lifestyle can put a tremendous strain on the body. It’s a big change from high school, and many freshmen aren’t ready for the responsibility of looking after themselves. The greasy cafeteria food, late-night study sessions and germ-infested bathrooms of college life all add up, and many students fall into the pit of constantly feeling crappy.

Exercise

Exercise
Staying fit in college

There is more to physical health than just eating right. Exercise is also a vital component of any healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, for many college students, it’s hard to fit in time to exercise with so much schoolwork and so many social distractions. Many students live a sedentary lifestyle, only venturing out of their dorm rooms to go to class. This is particularly true for female students, whom statistics show to be much less physically active than their male counterparts.

A Complete Workoutstyle="font-style:italic;">

A Complete Workout
Fulfilling your fitness needs

Every well-rounded workout consists of three distinct elements: aerobic exercise, strength training and flexibility training. Many students choose to spend extra time in one particular area, but no workout is complete unless time is spent on each of the three separate aspects.

Aerobic Exercise

Any motion that gets your heart pumping and makes you take faster, deeper breaths is considered to be aerobic. Aerobic exercise is commonly referred to as cardio. Jogging and biking are two common forms of aerobic exercise. Running up stairs, jumping jacks and even dancing are other great ways to work out your heart and lungs. Ideally, you’ll spend between one and two hours a week on cardio. Don’t do it all at once. Instead, spread it out over three or four separate workouts.

Sleep
Your mom is right - you probably aren’t getting enough

It’s very common for college students to struggle with their sleep patterns. In fact, the average college student is twice as likely to suffer from inadequate sleep as is a member of the general population. In total, less than 15 percent of college students report that they’re consistently well-rested. Even more disturbing is the fact that recent studies have shown that the amount of sleep the average college student gets is decreasing every year.

Are You Getting Enough Sleep?

College students are more active than most other demographics, so they need a lot of sleep. Seven to nine hours per night is needed by most, but few get this much. Many students only get six hours of sleep or less per night.

Hygiene
Staying so fresh, so clean

College campuses (and dorms in particular) can be quite filthy places. Germs are everywhere, spreading with ease through cramped lecture halls, public bathrooms, cafeterias and shared laboratories, causing a wide range of illnesses.

The control and prevention of disease is a social problem, not a personal one. Good hygiene is an obligation you have to society. We all have to take part to ensure the health of those around us. College students are generally among the healthiest people in society. Unfortunately, this can lead many to feel a sense of invincibility. Even if you aren’t worried about getting sick, be sure to consider those of us who are more vulnerable to disease the next time you decide to leave the bathroom without washing your hands.

Sickness
The most common illnesses on campus

College campuses are, in many ways, an excellent breeding ground for diseases. Students’ immune systems are compromised due to lack of sleep, unhealthy eating habits and stress. Plus, communal living and eating and crowded classrooms and bars make the likelihood of coming into contact with germs pretty much inevitable!

You can minimize your chances of contracting a viral or bacterial infection in two easy ways. First, get plenty of sleep. Second, practice good hygiene. Wash your hands frequently, never share eating utensils and keep your distance from any person who is showing signs of illness.

Personal Safety
Staying safe on campus

College should be a time for broadening your horizons and opening yourself to new ideas and experiences. The freedom and excitement that college offers leads many students to gain a sense of limitless potential (which is good) and invincibility (which can be problematic). Unfortunately, there are over 75,000 crimes committed every year on college campuses across the nation, and violent crimes, including assault and rape, are not uncommon. It’s important that all students form practical strategies for staying safe in college.

Campus safety is an issue at all colleges. The good news is that if you take the right precautions and make good decisions, you can help ensure that you remain safe, and you can free your mind to focus on other things, like your academics and social life. The following strategies can help you stay safe on campus:

Violence and Abuse
Escaping physical and emotional abuse

Abuse is defined as a means of exerting power and control over a partner in an intimate relationship. There are two basic forms of abuse: physical and emotional. Abuse can penetrate any relationship, from long-term marriages to casual high-school dating. Although both males and females can be abusive, abuse by males is more common and is usually more severe. Somewhere in the range of 25 percent of all college students have experienced abuse in the context of a dating relationship (statistics aren’t exact because most abuse goes unreported).

Physical Abuse

Physical abuse is defined as the use of physical force with the intent of injuring another person. Examples include:

Very Cool Facts About The Internal Organs

Very Cool Facts About The Internal Organs

Though we may not give them much thought unless they’re bothering us, our internal organs are what allow us to go on eating, breathing and walking around. Here are some things to consider the next time you hear your stomach growl.

1 The largest internal organ is the small intestine. Despite being called the smaller of the two intestines, your small intestine is actually four times as long as the average adult is tall. If it weren’t looped back and forth upon itself it wouldn’t fit inside the abdominal cavity.

2 The human heart creates enough pressure to squirt blood 30 feet. No wonder you can feel your heartbeat so easily. Pumping blood through your body quickly and efficiently takes quite a bit of pressure resulting in the strong contractions of the heart and the thick walls of the ventricles which push blood to the body.

3 The acid in your stomach is strong enough to dissolve razorblades. While you certainly shouldn’t test the fortitude of your stomach by eating a razorblade or any other metal object for that matter, the acids that digest the food you eat aren’t to be taken lightly. Hydrochloric acid, the type found in your stomach, is not only good at dissolving the pizza you had for dinner but can also eat through many types of metal.
4 The human body is estimated to have 60,000 miles of blood vessels. To put that in perspective, the distance around the earth is about 25,000 miles, making the distance your blood vessels could travel if laid end to end more than two times around the earth.

5 You get a new stomach lining every three to four days. The mucus-like cells lining the walls of the stomach would soon dissolve due to the strong digestive acids in your stomach if they weren’t constantly replaced. Those with ulcers know how painful it can be when stomach acid takes its toll on the lining of your stomach.

6 The surface area of a human lung is equal to a tennis court. In order to more efficiently oxygenate the blood, the lungs are filled with thousands of branching bronchi and tiny, grape-like alveoli. These are filled with microscopic capillaries which oxygen and carbon dioxide. The large amount of surface area makes it easier for this exchange to take place, and makes sure you stay properly oxygenated at all times.

7 Women’s hearts beat faster than men’s.The main reason for this is simply that on average women tend to be smaller than men and have less mass to pump blood to. But women’s and men’s hearts can actually act quite differently, especially when experiencing trauma like a heart attack, and many treatments that work for men must be adjusted or changed entirely to work for women.

8 Scientists have counted over 500 different liver functions. You may not think much about your liver except after a long night of drinking, but the liver is one of the body’s hardest working, largest and busiest organs. Some of the functions your liver performs are: production of bile, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, and detoxification.

9 The aorta is nearly the diameter of a garden hose. The average adult heart is about the size of two fists, making the size of the aorta quite impressive. The artery needs to be so large as it is the main supplier of rich, oxygenated blood to the rest of the body.

10 Your left lung is smaller than your right lung to make room for your heart. For most people, if they were asked to draw a picture of what the lungs look like they would draw both looking roughly the same size. While the lungs are fairly similar in size, the human heart, though located fairly centrally, is tilted slightly to the left making it take up more room on that side of the body and crowding out that poor left lung.

11 You could remove a large part of your internal organs and survive. The human body may appear fragile but it’s possible to survive even with the removal of the stomach, the spleen, 75 percent of the liver, 80 percent of the intestines, one kidney, one lung, and virtually every organ from the pelvic and groin area. You might not feel too great, but the missing organs wouldn’t kill you.

12 The adrenal glands change size throughout life. The adrenal glands, lying right above the kidneys, are responsible for releasing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. In the seventh month of a fetus’ development, the glands are roughly the same size as the kidneys. At birth, the glands have shrunk slightly and will continue to do so throughout life. In fact, by the time a person reaches old age, the glands are so small they can hardly be seen.

Very Cool Facts About The Human Hair and Nails

While they’re not a living part of your body, most people spend a good amount of time caring for their hair and nails. The next time you’re heading in for a haircut or manicure, think of these facts.

  1. Facial hair grows faster than any other hair on the body. If you’ve ever had a covering of stubble on your face as you’re clocking out at 5 o’clock you’re probably pretty familiar with this. In fact, if the average man never shaved his beard it would grow to over 30 feet during his lifetime, longer than a killer whale.
  2. Every day the average person loses 60-100 strands of hair. Unless you’re already bald, chances are good that you’re shedding pretty heavily on a daily basis. Your hair loss will vary in accordance with the season, pregnancy, illness, diet and age.
  3. Women’s hair is about half the diameter of men’s hair. While it might sound strange, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that men’s hair should be coarser than that of women. Hair diameter also varies on average between races, making hair plugs on some men look especially obvious.
  4. One human hair can support 3.5 ounces. That’s about the weight of two full size candy bars, and with hundreds of thousands of hairs on the human head, makes the tale of Rapunzel much more plausible.
  5. The fastest growing nail is on the middle finger. And the nail on the middle finger of your dominant hand will grow the fastest of all. Why is not entirely known, but nail growth is related to the length of the finger, with the longest fingers growing nails the fastest and shortest the slowest.
  6. There are as many hairs per square inch on your body as a chimpanzee. Humans are not quite the naked apes that we’re made out to be. We have lots of hair, but on most of us it’s not obvious as a majority of the hairs are too fine or light to be seen.
  7. Blondes have more hair. They’re said to have more fun, and they definitely have more hair. Hair color determines how dense the hair on your head is. The average human has 100,000 hair follicles, each of which is capable of producing 20 individual hairs during a person’s lifetime. Blondes average 146,000 follicles while people with black hair tend to have about 110,000 follicles. Those with brown hair fit the average with 100,000 follicles and redheads have the least dense hair, with about 86,000 follicles.
  8. Fingernails grow nearly 4 times faster than toenails. If you notice that you’re trimming your fingernails much more frequently than your toenails you’re not just imagining it. The nails that get the most exposure and are used most frequently grow the fastest. On average, nails on both the toes and fingers grow about one-tenth of an inch each month.
  9. The lifespan of a human hair is 3 to 7 years on average. While you quite a few hairs each day, your hairs actually have a pretty long life providing they aren’t subject to any trauma. Your hairs will likely get to see several different haircuts, styles, and even possibly decades before they fall out on their own.
  10. You must lose over 50% of your scalp hairs before it is apparent to anyone. You lose hundreds of hairs a day but you’ll have to lose a lot more before you or anyone else will notice. Half of the hairs on your pretty little head will have to disappear before your impending baldness will become obvious to all those around you.
  11. Human hair is virtually indestructible. Aside from it’s flammability, human hair decays at such a slow rate that it is practically non-disintegrative. If you’ve ever wondered how your how clogs up your pipes so quick consider this: hair cannot be destroyed by cold, change of climate, water, or other natural forces and it is resistant to many kinds of acids and corrosive chemicals.

Very Cool Facts About The Human Body

The human body is an incredibly complex and intricate system, one that still baffles doctors and researchers on a regular basis despite thousands of years of medical knowledge. As a result, it shouldn’t be any surprise that even body parts and functions we deal with every day have bizarre or unexpected facts and explanations behind them. From sneezes to fingernail growth, here are 100 weird, wacky, and interesting facts about the human body.

The Brain

The human brain is the most complex and least understood part of the human anatomy. There may be a lot we don’t know, but here are a few interesting facts that we’ve got covered.

  1. Nerve impulses to and from the brain travel as fast as 170 miles per hour. Ever wonder how you can react so fast to things around you or why that stubbed toe hurts right away? It’s due to the super-speedy movement of nerve impulses from your brain to the rest of your body and vice versa, bringing reactions at the speed of a high powered luxury sports car.
  2. The brain operates on the same amount of power as 10-watt light bulb. The cartoon image of a light bulb over your head when a great thought occurs isn’t too far off the mark. Your brain generates as much energy as a small light bulb even when you’re sleeping.
  3. The human brain cell can hold 5 times as much information as the Encyclopedia Britannica. Or any other encyclopedia for that matter. Scientists have yet to settle on a definitive amount, but the storage capacity of the brain in electronic terms is thought to be between 3 or even 1,000 terabytes. The National Archives of Britain, containing over 900 years of history, only takes up 70 terabytes, making your brain’s memory power pretty darn impressive.
  4. Your brain uses 20% of the oxygen that enters your bloodstream. The brain only makes up about 2% of our body mass, yet consumes more oxygen than any other organ in the body, making it extremely susceptible to damage related to oxygen deprivation. So breathe deep to keep your brain happy and swimming in oxygenated cells.
  5. The brain is much more active at night than during the day. Logically, you would think that all the moving around, complicated calculations and tasks and general interaction we do on a daily basis during our working hours would take a lot more brain power than, say, lying in bed. Turns out, the opposite is true. When you turn off your brain turns on. Scientists don’t yet know why this is but you can thank the hard work of your brain while you sleep for all those pleasant dreams.
  6. Scientists say the higher your I.Q. the more you dream. While this may be true, don’t take it as a sign you’re mentally lacking if you can’t recall your dreams. Most of us don’t remember many of our dreams and the average length of most dreams is only 2-3 seconds–barely long enough to register.
  7. Neurons continue to grow throughout human life. For years scientists and doctors thought that brain and neural tissue couldn’t grow or regenerate. While it doesn’t act in the same manner as tissues in many other parts of the body, neurons can and do grow throughout your life, adding a whole new dimension to the study of the brain and the illnesses that affect it.
  8. Information travels at different speeds within different types of neurons. Not all neurons are the same. There are a few different types within the body and transmission along these different kinds can be as slow as 0.5 meters/sec or as fast as 120 meters/sec.
  9. The brain itself cannot feel pain. While the brain might be the pain center when you cut your finger or burn yourself, the brain itself does not have pain receptors and cannot feel pain. That doesn’t mean your head can’t hurt. The brain is surrounded by loads of tissues, nerves and blood vessels that are plenty receptive to pain and can give you a pounding headache.
  10. 80% of the brain is water. Your brain isn’t the firm, gray mass you’ve seen on TV. Living brain tissue is a squishy, pink and jelly-like organ thanks to the loads of blood and high water content of the tissue. So the next time you’re feeling dehydrated get a drink to keep your brain hydrated.

How Can SOPA and PIPA Effect Bloggers?

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA) which aimed at demolishing the online freedom and spread of speech has fortunately been postponed on January 20, 2012 after US Government saw the biggest internet protest of the time. The protests were the biggest in Internet history, with over 115 thousand sites altering their webpages with black protest banners! With Wikipedia and reddit being the heavy protestors. As soon as FBI shutdown the largest free resource sharing website "MegaUpload" , tons of attacks were launched by Anonymous just after 70 minutes on government websites such as Justice Department, the FBI, Universal Music Group, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and Broadcast Music, Inc.

What is SOPA and PIPA?

These are two bills which were proposed in the US parliament as an open attack on sites that promote copyright infringement of content and goods. The biggest sponsor of the bills was HOLLYWOOD which includes the film and music industry. Though this may sound just ok but if this would have been passed than thousands of web owners which include us have been destroyed completely with a complete shutdown of their servers and online existence. From Wikipedia till Google, every single web service would have been attacked and abused. Internet service providers would have been forced to block websites that promote piracy and search engines like Google would have been pressurized to stop indexing such sites and stop sending them traffic. Read the complete story here.

How to make sure you stay safe?

As we have always stressed, please give more value to unique and quality content. Whether it may be SOPA or Google Panda , no one respects or allows redistributed content with re-shared material. Blogging can be a long term business with great future milestones if you feed it properly from the very first day. Write more, write good, publish something new each day and stay happy and safe forever. That's what blogging is all about.
